The past weekend of football included many ceremonies to make the ten-year anniversary of September 11, 2001. All well and good. The Idaho Vandals, however, make it a priority to keep the troops who fight for our freedom in the forefront every week.

Head coach Robb Akey, who's team carries the nickname "Akey's Army", makes sure his team never hits the field without the American flag flying in front.

"It's our way of saying we need to continue paying attention to what the United States is and how proud we are, how fortunate we are to be able to live in the United States - what that means to us," said Akey.

Akey pulls his inspiration from a tip he took to Afghanistan. He spent ten days with the troops there.

"The greatest display of teamwork I have ever witnessed was on that trip," he said.
