Eagles Fall in FCS Poll

Updated:
Eastern Washington lost 30-17 to South Dakota last weekend. Eastern Washington lost 30-17 to South Dakota last weekend.

One loss to a BCS team is understandable. A second loss to South Dakota – not so much. Eastern Washington tumbled in the Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS poll on Monday after losing to the Coyotes 30-17.

The Eagles came in at No. 10 on Monday morning. Georgia Southern moved up to No. 1, followed by Northern Iowa, Appalachian State, William and Mary and Montana State. Montana moved up three spots to No. 12 and Sacramento State fell to No. 20.

"I don't know if you need to use this as motivation – no matter what our record is we better be motivated for Big Sky football," said Baldwin. "The conference season starts next week and we will be motivated for the Montana Grizzlies. Everybody who is a competitor is going to want to fight back. This is a tough spot we're in – it's never easy to dig out of an 0-2 hole. But the only possible chance we have is to grind it out a practice at a time and a game at a time. All our energy needs to go toward playing Montana."

Eastern Washington plays at Montana on Saturday – a game seen live on SWX-TV.

The Eagles will play without the services of running back Mario Brown, who ran the ball seven times but finished with –6 yards. He was suspended for one game on Monday by both the Big Sky Conference and the university for throwing a punch at the end of last Saturday's game.
