SWX Right Now can be seen both over-the-air and through some cable services in the Spokane-Coeur d-Alene, Kennewick-Pasco-Richland, and Yakima viewership areas.
On paper, the matchup between Ferris and Shadle Park is a glaring mismatch. But that's why they play the game. Both teams believe the game Friday night at Joe Albi Stadium will be a close one - and definitely one to watch on SWX-TV.
Ferris, the defending 4A state champion, is coming off a season-opening 42-14 win over University. The final score makes it looks like the Saxons blew the Titans out of the water, but questions still remain about who will play quarterback.
"We were state champs last year so everyone is kind of gunning for us this year," said Ferris linebacker Kurtis Karstetter. "We like it! We like to get everybody's best game."
Ben Goodwin, who was supposed to be this year's starter - again - needs Tommy John surgery and is playing with his arm in a soft cast. He played sparingly last week against University and even threw a few short passes while Drew Sharkey, the coach's son, filled the starting role.
The Saxons are confident going into Friday's game but know Shadle is no longer a team that can be overlooked.
"They're for real, they're definitely not a team we're going to look past, because they can make a real run for it if they get some guys going," said Ferris linebacker Kole Heidinger.
Shadle believes they are on the cusp of turning things around after a handful of disappointing seasons.
"We have high hopes: a new club, a new program, our whole coaching staff is totally psyched about this season," said Shadle quarterback Levi McBournie.
"We've been talking about this season for a long time," added senior linebacker Josh Bender. "A lot of us have been starting since our sophomore year, so I think we have the potential to make it - definitely not a 50-0 kind of a game."
Rogers (0-1) vs. North Central(0-1)
The late game - also broadcast live on SWX-TV - is the game between North Central and Rogers.
North Central lost to Mead 47-7 last week. Rogers lost to Lewis & Clark 49-22.
Friday's game between the Pirates and Indians kicks off at 8:00 p.m. at Joe Albi Stadium.
