Indians Rally for 4-2 Win in Season Finale

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Their postseason fate was already determined earlier in the day, but that didn't stop the Spokane Indians from rallying to a 4-2 win over the Everett AquaSox in their 2011 season finale on Saturday night.

The Boise Hawks beat the Vancouver Canadians in an afternoon game to clinch a playoff spot in the NWL East, eliminating Spokane from postseason contention.  That news seemed to linger over the Indians in the early innings, when they managed just one infield single through the game's first five innings.  But the Spokane lineup rattled Everett starting pitcher Joseph DiRocco with three consecutive hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.  AquaSox reliever Kyle Hunter allowed two inherited runners to score on a Yefri Castillo double, giving Spokane a 3-2 lead.  The Indians added an insurance run on a Ruben Sierra RBI single in the eighth inning.

Indians pitcher Alexander Claudio picked up the victory in relief, pitching 3 shutout innings.  Jerad Eickhoff came on in the ninth inning to relieve Greg Williams to escape a bases loaded jam to record his second save of the season.

The Indians finished the second half 15-23 (35-41 overall).
