Less than one percent of high school student athletes looking to play sports at the highest collegiate level ever make it. That's reality, according to Jack Renkens, an expert in recruiting and a self-proclaimed athletic educational speaker.

Renkens, owner of Recruiting Realities, said very few high school stars wind up with D-I scholarships. To dispel the myth about college recruiting, he said even legitimate all-conference and all-region athletes who are contacted by dozens of different programs rarely get what they think they deserve.

"The first thing they and their families think is that they get to pick the school," said Renkens. "If they get contacted by 20 or 30 colleges, they're like 'I like these three or four schools', and that's the first thing I try to convey to them: you're not going to get to pick the school. The school is going to pick you."

Renkens and his panel of speakers travel the entire country talking to students and their parents about the college recruiting process. He comes to Spokane's Mead High School on September 12.
