Former Spokane Chiefs standout Cam Severson is back on his old stomping grounds. No longer a player of the game, he is now on a mission to help young kids achieve their own dreams on the ice.

Severson, who grew up in Canada, played five season in the WHL. He had stints with both the NHL and European hockey. But when it finally came time to hang up the skates he returned his roots to coach young kids in Spokane.

"I'm really excited to be that one coach that some of these players have before they go on to play junior hockey," he said. "For me as a younger player I played in the Western Hockey League at 16-years-old and it was a huge jump. It was like, 'holy mad, I wasn't prepared for this, my coach didn't tell me any of this.'"

What started as a hobby progressed into a passion.

"I always saw myself as a player as being a coach," said Severson. "I think the most rewarding part of being a coach is coaching youth players."
