Kickoff is fast approaching for the Cougars. Washington State began preparations for this weekend's foe, Idaho State, and got some good news along the way.

Senior defensive end Brandon Rankin was ruled academically eligible by the NCAA on Monday. Because he has been practicing in fall camp he will be ready to play in Saturday's opener.

"We've progressed a long, long way from where we've been as a program and as a team from this spring and even from the first day of fall camp," said head coach Paul Wulff.

"I think we're in a really good spot," added quarterback Jeff Tuel. "I think if we lined up and played tomorrow we'd be in a really good position to do a lot of good things and win the ball game."

Saturday's game at Martin Stadium kicks off at 2 p.m. It will not be televised. It will be the first time the Cougars have ever played Idaho State, a member of the Big Sky Conference.
