COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – Upset-minded Lakeland gave Lake City a scare Friday night in Coeur d'Alene, but the Timberwolves pulled away in the second half to win both teams' season openers, 46-21.
Starting quarterback Bobby Traverse tossed three touchdown passes for the Timberwolves. Lake City won last year's season opener against Lakeland, 41-6, in Rathdrum. The Hawks, though, played this year's opener much closer, tying the game at 7-7 in the first quarter, and trailing 16-14 in the second quarter. But Lakeland couldn't overcome two costly safeties en route to the defeat.
