USA goal keeper Hope Solo, from Richland, Wash., was one of the stars of the women's soccer team during this year's World Cup.
Richland's own Hope Solo became a household name this summer during the women's World Cup soccer championship. And now she has posed nude for the Body Issue of ESPN The Magazine.
Solo did not mention the photo shoot during an interview with ABC 7 in San Francisco this week. Instead, when asked whether she considers herself a role model for young girls, she said she didn't think she was.
"I don't think I am now a role model," said Solo. "I think our entire careers we as athletes do everything we can to be best that we can be, and that takes a lot of hard work, that takes determination, that takes a certain mindset, it takes passion. Of course it takes teamwork and a good support system to help uplift you but it's natural. I'm not trying to be a role model, I didn't play soccer to be a role model."
In addition to her photo shoot, Bank of America asked Solo and two of her USA teammates to be co-captains of the Let's Run Together relay team to promote the 2011 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. She will be one of 13 runners to run together in the marathon for charity.
