Nate Smith may or may not get to keep the $50,000 prize (KARE)
An 11-year-old boy in Minnesota won $50,000 at a charity fundraiser for shooting a 3-inch hockey puck into a 3-1/2 hole from 89-feet away. Or did he?
There is no question Nate Smith hit the amazing shot. It send the crowd watching from the stands into an uproar. The video clearly shows the puck going through the hole.
Honestly though, the raffle ticket that got Nate to the ice didn't belong to him. It really belonged to his twin brother, Nick. As it turned out, Nick's name was called to take the shot, but he was outside at the time, thinking there was no way he was going to win the raffle. So Nate stood in his place and won!
The next day, Nick and Nate's father called the powers-that-be and told them that Nate made the shot instead of Nick.
According to ABC News, the insurance company, Odds on Promotions, hasn't decided whether to award the $50,000 anyway. The twins say if they wind up getting the money they will save it for college.
