Justin Smoak tells the Seattle Times he still can't breath through his nose, but he hopes to be back on the field for the Mariners in a couple of weeks.

Smoak got a broken nose and a hairline fracture on his cheekbone after a ground ball by Boston's Jarrod Saltalmacchia took a bad bounce last week. He said the ball hit his cap and bounced back into his face.

The Mariners put him on the disabled list on Saturday.

Asked whether he will wear a facemask when he comes back, Smoak told the Times he wouldn't. But he would wear a helmet that protects the side of his face for a while.

Smoak is eligible to come of the DL on Aug. 28.
