Former WSU standout Erik Coleman will play the 2011 season with the Detroit Lions (SWX)
Former Washington State defensive back Erik Coleman is excited to get back to work in the NFL and believes he is in the best physical shape of his life.
Coleman, who was drafted by the New York Jets in 2004 and played three years with Atlanta, will play the new season with the Detroit Lions.
Speaking to SWX's Michelle Dapper, Coleman said he spent the offseason working out with several other NFL players in North Miami, working out five days a week.
"I'm probably in the best shape of my life right now," Coleman said.
When talking about his former team in Pullman, Coleman is optimistic, adding that Washington State has always thrived on being the underdog.
"I know the guys have been working hard out there in Pullman, the coaching staff they put together – they're working hard and we know they're going to make improvements. All of us former Cougs are rooting for them and we wish them the best of luck this year," he said.
Coleman said he hopes to make it to a WSU this year – perhaps during a bye week.
