Tarvaris Jackson Headed To Seattle; Matt Leinart A Possibility

Updated:

Leinart Could Wind Up In Seattle Too

Just as quickly as the news broke that Matt Hasselbeck would not re-sign with Seattle, word came that the Seahawks had come to terms with his apparent heir: Tarvaris Jackson.

Dave Mahler of the Dave Mahler Show on 950 KJR in Seattle confirmed the news, tweeting shortly thereafter, "hearing from source #seahawks have come to terms with QB Taveres (sic) Jackson. Flying to Seattle tonight."

Jackson used to work with new offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell when the two were in Minnesota with the Vikings. Having a familiarity with the new offense could work well to his advantage as he takes over for Hasselbeck, who has been a Seattle staple for the past ten years.

Jackson has spent the past five years with the Vikings, going 10-10 in 20 career starts. He served as Brett Favre's backup last year and has started just six games since 2007 – the year he threw nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Several sources, including ESPN, reported Tuesday that the Seahawks would also be getting quarterback Matt Leinart. The same report said the former Arizona Cardinal was also considering going to the Redskins.

Leinart and Jackson would compete with current Seahawks quarterback Charlie Whitehurst for the starting job.
