Kyle Rowley, who came in for an injured Erik Meyer last week, will be the starting quarterback when the Shock play at Jacksonville on the NFL Network Friday night.

Meyer suffered a shoulder injury in last week's game against San Jose. Rowley came into the game in the first half and returned to championship form of a year ago. He threw 24-of-31 for 281 yards and eight touchdowns.

"What we're going with now, and it's going to take some time for the swelling to go down [in Meyer's shoulder], it's a badly bruised shoulder, and we're going to keep it at that," said head coach Rob Keefe.

Keefe said Meyer wouldn't be placed on the Injured Reserve list unless the injury looks worse as the week progresses.

"We feel very confident in Kyle Rowley and he will be our starting quarterback for this week."

The Shock said Tuesday they had activated star receiver Raul Vijil and backup quarterback Steven Sheffield from Injured Reserve. Offensive lineman Shannon Tevaga and receiver Emery Sammons took their place on the IR, both suffering from injuries.

Even though the Shock are locked into the fourth playoff seed in the National Conference, Friday's road game isn't of the throwaway variety. Spokane needs to win at least ten regular season games to have any chance to host Arena Bowl XXIV.
