Richland Native Has Bright Future In, Out of Soccer

Team USA's sensational goalkeeper Hope Solo captivated the hearts of many an American during the women's World Cup. While it's true she didn't win the Cup, her future is still very bright and may even include an appearance on Dancing With The Stars.

Solo and the rest of Team USA arrived in New York on Monday after their heartbreaking loss to Japan on Sunday.

The news this week is that Dancing With the Stars' Maksim Chmerkovsky said he wants the Richland native as his dance partner. No word on whether it will really materialize.

As for the game of soccer, Solo said the loss in Germany still haunts her, and that she wants another crack at the Cup in four years.

"I really feel like I haven't had the moment to myself to process everything, but I do know that it hurts more a day later," she said after stepping off the bus. "I was okay with [Japan's] storybook ending because I know they were fighting for so many more reasons other than the game itself. But then a day later I look back and I'm like, ‘man, so close yet so far away.' We tasted victory, we really did, and somehow we let it go."

Solo and other members of her team will be making the rounds on daytime and nighttime TV shows over the next several days. Where Solo's career goes from here is anyone's guess, but an article on USAToday.com suggested her possibilities are endless.

Said Bob Dorfman, who rates the endorsement potential of athletes, "Certainly she has the potential to be the face of a cosmetics or hair care company. She can get into the same kind of ‘glamour' areas as Danica [Kirkpatrick] or Maria Sharapova."
