Hometown Girl Hope Solo Shines For Team USA

Updated:

Four years ago Richland native Hope Solo was pulled from goal in favor of Briana Scurry. It was a semi-final match against Brazil - a game the Americans lost 0-4. Vindication is sweet sometimes.

Solo caught a lot of flack for questioning her head coach at the time, Greg Ryan. Four years later she is an American hero. This time around the goalkeeper allowed just five goals in six games, made 14 saves and led Team USA to the finals against Japan.

The soccer moms in Tri-Cities where she is from couldn't be more proud.

Solo grew up playing soccer in Richland and played collegiately for the University of Washington.
