Klay Thompson Joins Crowded Warrior Backcourt

Klay Thompson may very well be a perfect fit for the Golden State Warriors but it's clear he'll be joining a team with an already crowded backcourt.

Guards Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis were the starting tandem last year. The consensus in Oakland is that either Curry or Ellis will eventually leave. For the time-being at least, Thompson is looking forward to playing alongside two legitimate NBA guards.

"I know he's got a high basketball IQ and he can shoot the ball as well as create, and he's going to be a great kid to play with," said Thompson in an interview this week about Curry. "And the same with Monta. He's such a good playmaker."

Thompson said he can see himself playing off of Ellis - if not Curry too.

"There is a lot of young talent and veterans too," he said. "I'm excited to learn from all of them."

Warriors CEO and owner Joe Lacob told the San Jose Mercury News this week that, despite the rumors, he wasn't looking to trade Ellis. And a report by Scott Howard-Cooper on NBA.com said "chances are high Ellis is a Warrior on opening night".
