Some of the state's brightest football stars are coming to Cheney this Friday for the 47th annual East-West All-Star Game at Roos Field. And Ferris coach Jim Sharkey will take the lead for the East Team.

Sharkey's team is highlighted this year by seven Spokane-area players, including Saxon receiver Jordan Tonani, who intends to play defensive back for Eastern Washington next season.

Both the East and West teams practiced Tuesday at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley.

"My brother is a good football player and didn't get a chance to play in it, so I feel really honored to have a chance to play in this game," said Tonani. "There are a lot of good football players, everyone is good here."

"To be considered one of the best football players in the state is really a great achievement of mine," said former University High standout Joe Dahl.

"They're all good football players, and it's a lot of fun for us," added coach Sharkey. "We'll try to get them to run around a little bit, get them in the right spots for Friday night and have some fun."

Friday's game on the red turf will be televised live on SWX-TV beginning at 7 p.m. Later, SWX will debut its first nightly sports program, SWX Tonight at 10:30.
