As far as important games go, Thursday's matchup against Montana State is as big as they get right now for the Eastern Eagles. Tied for fifth place in the league, the Eagles need to win if they want to make the Big Sky tournament.

Thursday's game against the Bobcats starts at 7 p.m. and can be seen live on SWX-TV.

Eastern is trying to clinch its first berth into the Big Sky postseason in five seasons.

"It's maybe the biggest game we've had in the four years I've been here," said head coach Kirk Earlywine in a news release this week. "If we beat them we're one step closer to being in the conference tournament. It's just a monster game. It counts for only one win or loss in the conference standings, so in that regard it's no bigger than any other. But we know different."

The Eagles are tied with the Bobcats for fifth place. And they're one game ahead of seventh place Idaho State and Sacramento State. Only six teams make the postseason, so any misstep could keep them out of the tournament.

Montana State won the first meeting between the two teams this season. They beat the Eagles 71-59 on Jan. 16. But Montana State has lost seven league games since then, and have dropped nine games overall.

After playing Montana State in Cheney on Thursday the Eagles host first place Montana on Saturday.
