School may have been canceled on Thursday in the Spokane area, but Friday's 3A state play-in basketball will go on as scheduled, Greater Spokane League secretary Randy Ryan said.

Several inches of snow fell from Wednesday night to Thursday morning in and around Spokane, but forecasters said there isn't a major threat of any more significant snowfall until next week. Ryan said the host sites – Spokane Falls Community College and Shadle Park High School – plan to have their facilities open and ready to go.

With regards to travel, at least one of the two teams has already arrived in Spokane. Ryan said the boys team from Mercer Island came to Spokane on Wednesday afternoon. Mercer Island plays Southridge at SFCC Friday at 6 p.m. North Central plays Kamiakin at 8:30 p.m.

In the girls 3A bracket, North Central plays Kamiakin at Shadle at 6 p.m., followed by Cleveland vs. Eastmont at 8 p.m.

All other tournament games in and around Spokane, including the 1B and 2B playoff games, are still scheduled to take place despite the bad weather. SWX and KHQ will pass on any postponements or cancellations if and when they are announced.
