The Whitworth Pirates can't wait to get back on the basketball court, and they will get their chance Saturday night at Pacific.  The Pirates are coming off a heart-breaking loss at Whitman Tuesday.  Whitworth outscored 17-0 in the final 5 minutes of the game, losing 82-79.  The loss leaves the 'Bucs with a 23-1 record, and Saturday's game against last place Pacific will be the final game of the regular season.

Head Coach Jim Hayford told his team he was proud of them after the loss.  After all, they did roll off 23 straight wins to start the year, and are currently ranked number one in the country in division three basketball.  He also told SWX that he, and the team, feeling a little bit of a lighter load on their backs after Tuesday's loss.

"The great thing about sports is it teaches you different life lessons, and we were due to learn a lesson from taking a loss," said Hayford.  "It's kind of like when I was a kid, if my parent's would have let me have my way, I would have eaten nothing but candy.  But those brussel sprouts made it in there every now and then."

Whitworth and Pacific tip it off Saturday at 8 p.m.  The Pirates will then return home to face Pacific Lutheran University in the Northwest Conference Tournament at 7 p.m.
