Ferris, Gonzaga Prep Get Respect in Statewide Polls

Gonzaga Prep's girls team is good. Really good. And the rest of the state is taking notice now that there are only a few days until the state tournament begins.

Prep, which has just two losses in the Greater Spokane League this year plays Lewis & Clark this coming Friday for the district title. The Bullpups came in at No. 5 in the latest 4A AP High School Basketball poll, released Wednesday. Chiawana, from the Big 9, was first, followed by Auburn Riverside, Bellarmine Prep and Federal Way.

Richland, another team from the Big 9 came in at No. 6.

In the 3A, Shadle Park came in at No. 6. Holy Names was first, followed by Prairie, Timberline, Kennedy and Cleveland.

Other teams in the SWX viewing area receiving recognition were Clarkston and West Valley, who were No. 4 and No. 7 respectively in 2A. Freeman is No. 1 in 1A. Colville is No. 10.

Reardan is tied for No. 1 in the 2B classification. Waitsburg-Prescott was No. 6 and Colfax was No. 10.

And in 1B, the top five are Colton, Almira Coulee-Hartline, Sunnyside Christian, Columbia and Pomeroy - in that order.

 

Ferris No. 2 in Boys 4A poll

Ferris, the No. 1 seed in the Greater Spokane League, was No. 2 in the statewide 4A poll on Thursday. Other teams of note in the 4A included Gonzaga Prep (No. 6) and Davis (No. 7).

In the 3A ranks, Kamiakin was No. 2. University, the top 3A school in the GSL, was No. 8.

West Valley was No. 3 in the 2A classification, and Colfax was No. 1 in the 2Bs. The 1B poll is Almira Coulee-Hartline, Sunnyside Christian, Rosalia, Wellpinit and Cusick.
