SPOKANE, Wash. - Out of all the teams in the Greater Spokane League this fall, perhaps the one best-positioned to win is Gonzaga Prep.

Expectations are high this year for the Bullpups. The team is deep in the skill positions. Running back Bishop Sankey is regarded as one of the top runners in the state, let alone the Northwest. And Shane Schmidlekofer is a dual threat at quarterback: he can run and pass.

"We want to win 100 percent," said Schmidlekofer. "We put all of our energy into winning and we're all a team together. We don't have all these standout individual talent guys. We have Bishop – of course, that's a big part of our team – but we're a team here together and we come here to win."

"We have some great players coming back and we have some great players coming up, but they're green," added head coach Dave McKenna. "It's going to be exciting and really challenging because we have some very good players. But those players have to have guys around them to help and so we have some growth to do."

Gonzaga Prep's season starts Sept. 3 at home against Shadle Park.
