Warner to Call Action in Arena Bowl Too

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Even before he could spit out his first word in the playoffs as a color commentator, NFL Network said legendary AFL and NFL quarterback Kurt Warner would be calling the action for the Arena Bowl as well.

Warner, who is in Spokane for the Spokane Shock's playoff game against Milwaukee, will join Fran Charles in the booth on Thursday. He'll be next to former Iowa quarterback Paul Burmeister for the Arena Bowl, along with sideline reporters Anthony Herron and Ari Wolfe.

As a star in the AFL, Warner played in two Arena Bowls with the Iowa Barnstomers.

"I was lucky enough to play in three Super Bowls and two Arena Bowls," said Warner in a news release issued by the NFLN. "There is nothing better than playing for the championship at any level of football. I will share my experiences and what the players are feeling as they play for the ultimate prize in Arena Football."

Warner was an analyst on the NFL Network's broadcast of the game between Iowa and Arizona earlier in the season. Prior to that game he was inducted into the Iowa Barnstormers Hall of Fame.

"We couldn't be more pleased to have one of the legends of Arena Football, Kurt Warner, call the Arena Bowl and National Conference Championship game on NFL Network," said AFL commissioner Jerry Kurz. "We have enjoyed a successful return of Arena Football and can't wait to crown a new champion."

Thursday's playoff game gets underway on NFLN at 5 p.m.. (PT), with a live pregame show on SWX at 4:45.

The winner advances to the Arena Bowl. Should Spokane win, the Arena Bowl would be played at Spokane Arena on Aug. 20. If Milwaukee wins the championship game would either be played in Wisconsin, or at a venue in Florida depending on who wins between Tampa Bay and Orlando.
