SEATTLE, Wash.- Chone Figgins drove in three runs and Ryan Langerhans had three hits, including a home run, to help the Seattle Mariners beat Kansas City's Zack Grienke for the first time, defeating the Royals 7-1 on Friday night.
Grienke (7-11) had a 4-0 record against Seattle with a 1.64 ERA in 10 career appearances. In his previous five starts, he had allowed one earned run in 39 innings, including a team-record 31-inning scoreless streak. That streak included a one-hit, 3-0 victory last Aug. 30, a win that helped lock up his Cy Young Award.
The Mariners scored their most runs since an 8-1 win over Detroit on July 4 to support Luke French (1-2), who went eight innings, allowing one run and nine hits. It was his fifth career win, third against Kansas City.
