The Foster Arena Bowl awaits the AFL champion at the end of the season
The Arena Football League is new territory for the Spokane Shock. And with the new league comes a new championship trophy for the winning.
You won't find the players talking about it - not yet at least - but you can bet they're thinking about the trophy that awaits the champions. The prize for winning Arena Bowl XXIII is the Foster Arena Bowl, named after the founder of the league, Jim Foster.
The trophy has been given out 22 times. Tampa Bay has won it a quarter of the time, taking it home an impressive five times. Detroit has won the Arena Bowl four times. San Jose has three titles under their belt, although they're no longer part of the league. Orlando and Arizona both have two trophies.
The last team to win the Arena Bowl was the Philadelphia Soul, the team with which Spokane Shock head coach Rob Keefe played. The Soul announced earlier this season that they'll be returning to the AFL next year, only this time rock star Jon Bon Jovi won't be part of the ownership group that operates the team.
For the record, Spokane has a collection of championships, too. The Shock won the af2 championship in their inaugural 2006 season, and then again 2009.
