PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago -- Washington State freshman Shawna Fermin earned a trip to the World Junior Championships next month after her runner-up finish in the Girls Under 20 400m dash at the NAAA/Sagicor Track & Field Championships in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago Saturday.

Fermin, from Victorville, Calif., ran the 400m in a personal-record time of 54.41 seconds. She was competing for the Memphis Pioneers Track Club. Fermin will now compete at the 13th Annual IAAF World Junior Championships, July 19-25, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.

Sunday, at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, Trent Arrivey (senior, Woodinville, Wash.) did not clear the opening bar of 7-feet, 1/2 inch (2.15m) in the men's senior/open high jump.
