Make your December getaway plans now. The Zags will face the Fighting Illini of Illinois this winter in the 8th annual Battle in Seattle.

The game, announced Friday, pits the Zags against a team that made it into the quarterfinals of the National Invitational Tournament last season. The game is scheduled for Dec. 4, with tickets going on sale online beginning Sept. 11 in a special Spokane-area-only sale. Tickets for everyone else go on sale on Sept. 18.

Illinois' appearance in Seattle will mark the first time a team from the Big Ten has played in the annual contest in Seattle. Past teams include Davidson (2009), UConn (2008), Tennessee (2007), Nevada (2006), not to mention Adam Morrison's historic game against Oklahoma State in 2005.

Led by coach Bruce Weber, the Illlini welcome back its top five scorers, including All-Big Ten performer Demetri McCamey. The 6'3" point guard averaged a team-high 15.1 points per game as a junior and led the Big Ten and ranked second in the nation in assists. The team also includes Big Ten Freshman of the Year D.J. Richardson.

Gonzaga will be led next season by senior guard Steven Gray, who's thrived in Battle in Seattle games. Over the course of three games at Key Arena, Gray has averaged 15.6 points, shooting 56 percent from the floor.

The Zags are 4-3 all-time in Battle in Seattle contests.
