SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - The latest incarnation of the Spokane Indians has arrived in Spokane. Thirty players on assignment from the Texas Rangers are ready to embark upon the 2010 Northwest Baseball League season which begins on Friday.

The team held its annual welcome party for its new players Tuesday night in Spokane Valley. The new players answered questions from Indians fans - and the media.

"I love it, it reminds me of back home and the mountains of North Carolina," said pitcher Nicholas McBride. "I hear they have a great fan base and always have fans at the game. I've had a lot of friends come through and play here and they say it's just a great atmosphere."

"For most of these guys it's their first day of professional baseball, it's a great place to play," said Clark Murphy, who is beginning his second season in Spokane. "This town supports us. It's unbelievable what they do for us - the booster club and all the fans. It's not a hard place to play."

And speaking of playing, grounds crews are putting their final touches on Avista Stadium before Friday's opener against Tri-City. The first game of the season gets underway Friday at 6:30 p.m.
