Daisy Burke, a standout last season for Lewis & Clark, committed Wednesday to play basketball at Central Washington next season.  Deaira Gordon, from Ellensburg, also signed a Letter of Intent, said head coach Jeff Whitney.

Burke, a 5-foot-7 four-year letter winner at Lewis & Clark High, helped the Tigers to the state tournament in each of her four seasons. Her teams won the state championship when she was a freshman and sophomore.  The Tigers placed fifth during her junior year.

"Daisy's mental toughness and her intensity are the things that attracted us to her in her recruitment to Central," said Whitney. "She has the skills necessary to be a solid point guard in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and at the Division-I level."

Burke earned All-Greater Spokane League honorable mention honors while averaging 10 points, four rebounds and six assists per game.

Gordon, a 5-foot-11 forward from Ellensburg High helped her team to four 2A state trophies and was a first-team all-state forward as a senior.

"Deaira's ability to score both inside and out is what drew out attention to her early in the recruiting process," Whitney explained. "We later discovered that she is a very well-rounded player on both ends of the floor, has great court awareness and is an extremely good passer."

Gordon and Burke are the second and third players from Eastern Washington to commit to Central Washington. Moxee native Annie Martinez, a center from East Valley High School in Yakima signed a letter of intent with CWA in November 2009.
