Erica Chaney of the Eastern Washington University track and field team was named Big Sky Conference Field Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Oregon Relays on April 30-May 1.

Chaney, a junior from Spokane, Wash., and 2006 graduate of Gonzaga Prep HS, had a personal-best shot put of 49-4 1/4 to win the event and now rank second in school history. The school-record throw of 50-11 was set by Nancy Kuiper in 1991. Chaney currently ranks 26th in the NCAA Division I West list, with the top 48 advancing to Austin, Texas, for the NCAA West Regionals on May 27-29.

She also had a personal-best throw in the discus with a mark of 155-6 to win the event and move into fourth in school history. The school record of 160-9 was set by Carolee Gutierrez in 2007. She ranks 56th in the west region.

In the Big Sky Conference, Chaney ranks second in the shot put behind the throw of 49-11 set by Sacramento State's Ify Agwuenu. She ranks third in the discus behind Sacramento State's Holly Lohsen (157-4) and Montana State's Kirstin Lee (159-1).

Chaney will compete this week at the Vandal Jamboree in Moscow, Idaho, on May 7-8. She will then head to Big Sky Conference Championships in Ogden, Utah, on May 12-16.
