Few stays put; Ducks hire Altman

Posted: Updated:

Forget any talk about Gonzaga coach Mark Few leaving Spokane to take the head coaching job at Oregon. That job goes to longtime Creighton coach Dana Altman. The school scheduled a news conference at 1 p.m. Monday to make the formal announcement.

Altman, 51, has spent the past 16 seasons at Creighton and has a record of 327-176. He led the Blue Jays to 11 consecutive 20-win seasons before they went 18-16 this year. Before he coached at Creighton, he went 68-54 in four seasons at Kansas State.

Altman will replace Ernie Kent, who was fired from Oregon after 13 seasons.  His team went 16-16 last year.

Oregon tried unsuccessfully to lure several high-profile coaches to Eugene.
