He said what he wanted to say, and now its up to the League to decide whether Cliff Lee will have to serve out his five game suspension handed him during spring training.

Lee spent more than two hours on the phone with Major League Baseball officials on Wednesday. He discussed his penalty for throwing over the head of Arizona's Chris Snyder in an exhibition game on March 15. The phone call included an arbitrator who is expected to make a decision some time in the next few days.

Lee had collided with Snyder earlier in the game while backing up home plate.  The collision resulted in a strained abdomen that put Lee on the disabled list.

The Mariners' left-handed starter sailed through a bullpen session on Tuesday, throwing 63 pitches - about 10 more than was planned.  He said he felt good, and pitching coach Rick Adair added that pain is no longer an issue for Lee.  He just needs to build his endurance.

Lee is expected to throw a simulated game on Friday and make at least one minor league rehabilitation appearance.  He could make his season debut on May 1 or 2.
