SPOKANE, Wash. - The 8th seeded Gonzaga University Bulldogs have been selected to play the 9th seeded Florida State Seminoles in the first-round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
The Zags (26-6) will play the Seminoles (22-9) at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo N.Y. on Friday. The Winner will advance to meet either the West Region's top-seeded team, Syracuse, or 16th seeded Vermont in the second round.
Friday's meeting between the Zags and the Seminoles will be the first time the two schools have met on the basketball court.
Florida State earned an at-large bid after finishing with a 22-9 overall mark and a 10-6 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Seminoles fell in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament to NC State 58-52. This is the 12th time in school history Florida State has appeared in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, FSU, the No. 5 seed, dropped a 61-59 overtime decision to the No. 12 seed University of Wisconsin in the first round of the tournament.
This season marks Gonzaga's 12-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its 13th overall. The Zags won the West Coast Conference regular season title, finishing 12-2, but fell in the WCC tournament championship to Saint Mary's College, 81-62.
This season also marks the first time in program history that the Bulldogs have been awarded an eight seed in the field of 65.
Gonzaga University will be selling tickets to the NCAA First Round and Second Round Tournament games in Buffalo, N.Y. to current Bulldog Club Members from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Sunday. Tickets will be sold over the phone only with a major credit card. Bulldog Club membership status will be verified and BDC members will be limited to four tickets. Ticket availability is limited.
Tickets for these rounds are set at $76 per session played. If Gonzaga plays in the Second Round on Sunday, March 21 ticket purchasers will automatically be billed another $76. To purchase tickets, call (509) 313-6000 beginning Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
In the event there are still tickets available after Sunday night, the ticket office will resume taking orders at 9 a.m.on Monday, March. At that time, Gonzaga Alumni will also have the opportunity to call for tickets. Alumni status will be verified prior to purchase.
