Union 63, North Central 54: Senior guard Chris Morgan scored 21 points and Union overcame a slow start to beat Spokane's North Central 63-54 Wednesday in a first-round game at the Class 3A boys basketball tournament.

The Titans (16-9) from Camas trailed 20-8 early but took the lead in the second quarter and led the rest of the way. Morgan was 6 of 12 from the field, hitting two 3-pointers, and was 7 of 9 from the free-throw line. The Titans shot nearly 47 percent (22 of 47) from the field. Caleb Whalen scored 12 to go with a team-high six rebounds for Union.

The Indians (15-12) got 11 points from Lucas Evans and a game-high nine rebounds from Zac Hill. Six North Central players scored eight or more. The Indians were just 10 of 19 from the free-throw line and turned the ball over 19 times in the loss.

Shadle Park 47, Capital 46:
Playing without their leading scorer, Aleisha Hathaway, the Shadle girls team pulled out a win Wednesday in the first round of the girls 3A State Tournament in Tacoma.

Senior guard Jenna Humphrey scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Highlanders past the Capital Cougars 47-46. She hit a pair of critical baskets with time running out to seal the win.

Hathaway had to sit out Wednesday's game because she was ejected from the District Championship game last week.

Shadle advances to play in Thursday's quarterfinal game on Thursday at 5 p.m.
