Cougar Men's golf finish 6th at Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas – The Washington State University men's golf team moved up one spot during the final day to finish in a tie for sixth at the Border Olympics, held at the par-72, 7,241-yard Laredo Country Club.

"We obviously did not play as well as we could have today," said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams. "But I can't be too disappointed when we beat Notre Dame, Baylor, Arkansas and Rice, among many others."

Austin Hurt led the way for the Cougars finishing in a tie for 16th with a three-round total of 221 (+5). The tournament marked the 18th top-25 finish for the senior from Bainbridge Island, Wash., giving him sole possession of eighth place on the WSU all-time list.

Senior Kevin Tucker charged up the leaderboard during the final day of competition, carding a one-under-par 71. After starting the day in a tie for 42nd the Kennewick, Wash., native moved up 15 positions to finish 25th with a tournament total 223 (+7).

Trent Sanders and Nick Ellis were the next-highest finishers for the Cougar squad. The duo finished in a tie for 38th, posting a three-round total of 226 (+10).

Rounding out the WSU lineup was Nick Grigsby. The senior finished with a two-day total of 229 (+13).

The men's team now has two weeks to recover before they travel to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the Duck Invitational March 22-23.
