SPOKANE, Wash. -- After leading Whitworth University to its first Northwest Conference women's basketball tournament since 2003, Cassie Pilkinton has been selected as a First Team All-NWC honoree and Leah Pomante received honorable mention consideration.

The pair of Pirate seniors will lead the team tonight in a conference tournament semifinal game at the University of Puget Sound. Whitworth is 14-11 overall and finished tied for third in the NWC with a 10-6 record.

Pilkinton (F, Chelan, Wash. – North Idaho Coll.) was a Second Team All-Northwest Conference selection last season in her first year with the Pirates and had another standout year in 2009-10. Pilkinton leads the team in scoring average (13.6) and rebounding average (5.6), and is second on the team in total assists (62) and steals (41). When Whitworth needed to win two road games last week to secure the conference playoff spot, Pilkinton scored 20 points in a win at Whitman and 17 in a victory at Linfield. She scored a career-high 27 points earlier this month against Puget Sound.

Pilkinton had previously been selected to the 2010 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Team.

Pomante (Sr., Colbert, Wash. - Mead) had another strong season as the starting point guard for the Pirates. She is currently second in the NWC (and 34th in the NCAA) in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.65), third in assists per game (3.56) and fourth in steals per game (2.16). She scored a season-high 20 points in last Saturday's win at Linfield.

Scott Rueck of George Fox is the 2010 NWC Coach of the Year. Claire Ely of Puget Sound, who led the NWC in five different statistical categories, is the 2010 Player of the Year.
