Tiger Woods: "I have bitterly disappointed all of you."

Posted: Updated:

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.- In a press conference at 8:00 Friday morning, Tiger Woods told his family, friends and fans that he is "deeply sorry" for his selfish and irresponsible behavior. He said, "I cheated and I felt entitled," then added, "I am not."

Woods was speaking from the clubhouse at the TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour. About 40 people were in the room, including his mother. His wife was not present. Tiger said questions the press has, and the answers they expect, about his infidelities and his irresponsible behavior will remain between he and his wife.

The world's number one golfer has not talked in public since his traffic accident Nov. 27 triggered shocking revelations about Woods' infidelity. He says his wife never hit him before, during, or after that accident. Tiger also asked the press to please stay away from his wife and children, saying he is the only one to blame.

Friday's event was tightly controlled, with only a few journalists allowed to watch Woods live. According to the PGA commissioner, Woods will return to therapy after Friday's events. Tiger Woods ended his press conference by saying he will be returning to golf, but did not say when that would be.
