Montana drops Eagles, 75 -60

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team lost 75-60 against the Montana Grizzlies Saturday at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula.

The Eagles are now 15-9 and 8-3 in the Big Sky, and Montana improved to 8-4 in the conference. Eastern remains in first place in the conference and the Grizzlies have moved into second place behind the Eagles. The Eagles and the Grizzlies split the season series at one game apiece.

Eastern will be back in action at Reese Court on Feb. 19 against Northern Colorado and Feb. 20 against Northern Arizona. Both games will tip-off at 7:05 p.m.

Julie Piper had a team-high 20 points and nine rebounds to lead EWU. Kyla Evans had a team-high four assists and was held scoreless in the second half, finishing with 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting and 3-of-8 from behind the arc. Nicole Scott finished with eight points and eight rebounds, and Jessica Huntington chipped in nine points.

Montana shot 44.4 percent from the field compared to 34.3 percent by the Eagles. Eastern was out-rebounded 42-37 and shot just 3-of-15 from three-point range in the second half.

Eastern went into halftime trailing 34-31, and was able to stay in reach due to their 7-of-16 three-point shooting for the half. Evans led the Eagles with 13 points heading into the break, and was 3-for-4 from behind the arc. The Grizzlies came out firing in the second half, and extended their lead to as many as 16 as they cruised to the victory.
