Eagles Big Sky lead reduced to one game as Vikings Win in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team suffered its first Big Sky Conference loss of the season 67-60 at the hands of the Portland State Vikings Saturday (Jan. 30) at the Stott Center in Portland, Ore.

The Eagles, now 13-7 overall, are back in action Wednesday Feb. 3 for a non-conference contest against Seattle University at Reese Court. Eastern will then get back into Big Sky play against Sacramento State at Reese Court on Saturday Feb. 6. Both games are set to tip-off at 7:05 p.m.

With the loss, the Eagles lead in the Big Sky had been reduced to one game over Portland State. The Eagles are now 7-1 in conference while the Vikings sit at 6-2.

Both teams turned the ball over 15 times and the Eagles were out-rebounded 38-27 by the Vikings. The Eagles shot 44 percent from the field while the Vikings shot 43.9 percent.

Eastern went into halftime with a 31-26 point lead, but the Vikings gained the lead at the 17:47 mark of the second half and never looked back.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Julie Piper, who finished the contest with 15 points. Reserve point guard Chene Cooper chipped in 13 points and Brianne Ryan had a team-high seven rebounds along with eight points.
