Sounders kick off 2010 season with someone missing

Posted: Updated:

TUKWILA, Wash. - Defender James Riley usually isn't this popular to have a convoy of reporters and television cameras crowding around him.

As the player union representative for the Seattle Sounders FC, he's pretty popular recently. The Sounders started their second training camp on Monday, but with a possible lockout by the owners of Major League Soccer hanging over the league. Seattle's management say its going ahead with plans as normal, and if a lockout comes on Jan. 31 when the league's labor contract expires, then they'll adjust.

For now, Seattle will continue with practice, but without star midfielder Freddie Ljungberg, who is remaining in Europe until the labor issue is resolved. Coach Sigi Schmid says Ljungberg could face discipline or fines from the team for missing the start of training camp.
