Posted: Updated:

SEATTLE - Brandon League and the Seattle Mariners have settled on a one-year contract worth nearly $1.1 million -- avoiding arbitration.

The right-handed reliever was acquired from Toronto last month with minor league outfielder Johermyn Chavez for right-hander Brandon Morrow. League appeared in 67 games for the Blue Jays last season, going 3-6 with a 4.58 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 74 2-3 innings. He made $640,000.

League is 7-10 with a 4.09 ERA in 168 major league games over six seasons with Toronto. He asked the Mariners for $1,325,000 when players and teams exchanged figures Tuesday, while Seattle countered at $900,000. The sides settled $25,000 below the midpoint.
