The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team defeated the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 66-52 Thursday (Jan. 14) in a Big Sky Conference game in Flagstaff, Ariz.

With the win, the Eagles move to 4-0 in the Big Sky Conference and are in first-place in the Big Sky standings. Heading into the game the Eagles were in a first-place tie with Portland State, but the Vikings lost to Northern Colorado 72-68 to give the Eagles sole possession of first-place. The last time the Eagles started 4-0 in conference was the 2004-05 season.

Tatjana Sparavalo led the Eagles in scoring with 13 points from the bench in just 12 minutes of action. Kyla Evans, Chene Cooper and Julie Piper each finished with eight points in the contest. Cooper, Brianne Ryan, and Jessica Huntington each had six rebounds in the game.

Eastern shot 44 percent from the field compared to Northern Arizona's 33 percent. The Lumberjacks were out-rebounded 45-to-38 by the Eagles.

The Eagles held freshman guard Amy Patton to seven points and 10 rebounds in the contest. Patton came into the game averaging a team-high 17.6 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game for the Lumberjacks.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead by the 16:22 mark but the Lumberjacks regained their composure and the lead went back and forth until Eastern took the lead for good at the 3:14 mark when Evans broke a 22-22 tie with a three-pointer. The Eagles never lost the lead from that point on.

The closest the Lumberjacks got to the Eagles in the second half was eight points at the 14:25 mark. Eastern's largest lead in the game was 14 points

The Eagles are now 10-6 overall and will be back in action Saturday (Jan. 16) at 6:05 p.m. at Northern Colorado.
