SPOKANE, Wash. - Ross Miner, the 2009 junior champion, has withdrawn from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships with a sprained ankle sustained a week ago in practice.
The 18-year-old Miner would have competed as a senior for the first time at a major competition. He said he'll be off the ice for a week and will resume training in two weeks.
Miner was hurt doing a triple axel. He and coaches Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson waited to see if Miner would heal in time for nationals, but he hasn't.
Late last year, he won the bronze medal at the Junior Grand Prix final.
