Heaps named Washington's AP Player of the Year

SEATTLE - Skyline quarterback Jake Heaps is the 2009 Associated Press Washington high school player of the year. He was an unanimous selection by AP members after leading the Spartans a third-straight state title.

The Brigham Young-bound quarterback capped his stellar career at the suburban Seattle school by throwing for more than 3,000 yards and 45 touchdowns, in leading the Spartans to the Class 4A state title.

Heaps finished his career with a 40-2 record, two 4A titles and one Class 3A championship. He was also voted the Class 4A player of the year.

Bellevue defensive disrupter Julious Moore was voted the Class 3A player of the year. Also voted players of the year were: Lynden QB Jordan Hastings (Class 2A), Connell RB Matt Hadley (Class 1A), Adna QB Kyle Grosshans (Class 2B) and Tri-Cities Prep QB Will Hoppes (Class 1B).
