Mariners catch infielder, working on deal for Lee

SEATTLE - The Mariners are set to introduce their new infielder. They are also working on an even bigger prize, for the rotation.

The team announced Monday it will introduce free agent Chone Figgins on Tuesday morning at Safeco Field. By then, the Mariners still may be working with the Philadelphia Phillies on a trade that could send 2008 Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee to Seattle, too.

The Phillies have a tentative agreement to acquire star pitcher Roy Halladay in a trade with Toronto. Philadelphia's domino move: talks to move Lee to Seattle.

The Mariners officially have no comment concerning Lee.

Figgins has been the catalyst atop the Los Angeles Angels' lineup for years. Last week, he signed a $36 million, four-year contract with a vesting option for 2014 to apparently replace departing free agent third baseman Adrian Beltre.
