Down 12 points with the clock ticking, the Gonzaga women's basketball team knew they had to do something – and do it fast. So, down 54-42 with 9:25 remaining in the game, the Zags' Heather Bowman, got to work.

Bowman hit a jumper that started a 19-0 run that didn't end until the Bulldogs had overtaken the Vikings and built a 61-54 lead with 1:46 left in the game.

"It was a gritty team effort that was done defensively," said head coach Kelly Graves in a news release after the game. "We never gave up, we tried to take it one possession at a time and just chip away at them."

And chip away they did. They ended the game on a 22-3 run, winning the game 64-57.

The drama of the game all but drowned out an historic accomplishment by one of the Zags' most famed players in its history. Courtney Vandersloot, who scored 11 points in the contest, became just the 14th player at Gonzaga to score 1,000 points. She hit the 1,000 mark on a free throw in the first half.

Gonzaga's next game is Saturday against Baylor at the Las Vegas Holliday Hoops Classic. After Baylor, they meet Texas A&M on Sunday. Both schools are ranked in the top 10.
