PULLMAN, Wash. – Klay Thompson scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Washington State beat up on Idaho 76-64 in Pullman Wednesday night.

Ferris High grad, DeAngelo Casto added 13 points for the Cougars and made his defensive presence felt by haling in 14 rebounds and blocking four shots. Reggie Moore added 12 for Washington State.

Idaho's cold shooting in the first half doomed them from the onset. The Vandals fell behind by double digits early in the game and spent the entire second half trying to play catch-up.

"I didn't think we played hard," said Idaho coach Don Verlin in a news release after the game. "That was the thing I was most disappointed in, was our effort tonight. I thought we didn't compete from the start."

Washington State's lead reached 27 points at the 13:27 mark in the second half before the Vandals started to get tings going. Idaho got back to within seven thanks to a pair of long balls by Jeff Ledbetter. But Idaho missed its final three shots of the game, while WSU made 5-of-8 from the free throw line to secure the win.

Idaho's two leading scorers, Steffan Johnson and Mac Hopson, finished the game with a combined 15 points.

The Vandals' next game is Saturday at home against Eastern Oregon.

Washington State plays Saturday at Spokane Arena against Air Force of the Mountain West Conference. Tipoff for that game is set for 1 p.m. (PT)
