Another hat trick for Beach; Chiefs win 6-1

SPOKANE, Wash. - Kyle Beach scored his second hat trick of the season and Jared Spurgeon helped on three goals in his first game of the year in Spokane’s 6-1 win over the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday night in the Spokane Arena.  The Chiefs scored two goals apiece in all three periods and upped their record to 11-7-1-0 good for 23 points.  The win in front of 8,321 fans pulled themselves within two points of Everett in third place in the U.S. Division.  The Silvertips dropped a 4-0 decision to Seattle.

Beach scored both of Spokane’s goals in the first with Kamloops’ lone goal by Shayne Wiebe coming in between his tallies.    Each goal was a one-timer from the left circle, the first at 6:23 and the second at 16:38 on the power play assisted by Mitch Wahl and Spurgeon.

In the second, Wahl scored what was the second of three power play goals on the night at 3:10 from Stefan Ulmer and Beach.  Brady Brassart recorded his first career WHL goal at 5:51 driving to the net and finishing a rebound of an Anthony Bardaro shot.

Ulmer’s third goal of the season was scored at 13:03 of the third.  Beach wrapped up the hat-trick with 15-seconds remaining  in the game on a breakaway that was initially stopped but poked in by the 19-year-old for his 100th career WHL goal.

The Chiefs outshot the Blazers 48-22 and scored three power play goals in seven tries.  They were 5-5 on the penalty kill.

Spokane will host the Kelowna Rockets on Sunday Night at 6:00 on Washington’s Lottery Night.  The first 1,000 fans 18-years-old or older through the gates will receive a free Washington’s Lottery scratch ticket.
