No. 15 Whitworth soccer to take on Chapman

SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth University will play Chapman University on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament in a four-team grouping at University of California at Santa Cruz.

The Pirates won the Northwest Conference for the third straight season and fifth time in the last six years. Whitworth will be making its sixth NCAA tournament appearance. The Pirates are 6-4-2 all-time in the national tournament.

Chapman comes into the tournament with a record of 11-4-2. The Panthers picked up one of three spots in the tournament reserved for independent participants.

UC Santa Cruz (13-4-2), another of the independents, will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (11-7-2) in the other first round match up. CMS surprised many by winning the SCIAC tournament as a #4 seed.

The times of the first (Saturday) and second (Sunday) round games are still to be announced.
